HistoricalData.net's terms cover purchases of historical US stock and options CSV data, download access, updates, refunds and licensed use. Archive purchases and update subscriptions are separate products. The complete data license appears below; personal information is covered by the privacy policy.
What does the HistoricalData.net service include?
HistoricalData.net provides downloadable historical US stock and options data in plain CSV files over HTTPS. The service includes:
- Free samples and coverage
- Sample datasets use the paid archives' CSV format. The coverage lookup and Coverage API & MCP provide public coverage and product metadata. These lookup tools do not deliver paid price data.
- One-time archives
- Stock and options archives provide the historical files described for the selected product, plus a limited included update period. An archive purchase is not an automatically renewing subscription.
- Monthly subscriptions
- Update subscriptions provide recent and new trading days, starting with the latest three weeks of data. Subscriptions do not include the full historical archive, which is purchased separately.
The stock products and options products describe the available history, prices and included updates. Coverage varies by security and date; the product pages and field definitions describe the relevant scope.
How are purchases delivered, and how long do links last?
After successful payment for HistoricalData.net data, download links appear immediately on the purchase confirmation page and are also sent to the email address used at checkout. The links provide access to the purchased files.

All HistoricalData.net archive download links are valid for 21 days from purchase. Included updates use a separate link for their stated period, also starting at purchase. HistoricalData.net reissues expired archive links free on request; email info@historicaldata.net from the purchase email address. Replacing or extending a download link does not restart or extend the 21-day archive refund application period.
A download link's expiry does not itself end the right to use data already delivered under the data license. Link validity determines download access; the license determines permitted use of delivered files.
How do included updates and subscriptions differ?
Updates included with a HistoricalData.net archive purchase run from the purchase date for the period in the table. For included updates, one month means 31 days and two months means 62 days. Included updates end without automatic renewal or further charges; continued updates require a separate subscription.
HistoricalData.net update subscriptions are billed monthly. Subscribers may cancel at any time to stop future billing. Cancellation does not refund the subscription month already billed and does not itself terminate the license for data already delivered.
Subscription links provide access while the subscription runs. New trading-day files become available as they are published; the delivery manifest identifies the files available in that collection. Keep and use downloaded files within the purchased license scope after updates end.
What are the delivery and refund commitments?
Help with purchased data
HistoricalData.net will help resolve a download link that does not open, a transfer that does not complete, or a purchased file that does not match the documented format or coverage. Replacement links are free. If HistoricalData.net cannot make the purchased data available, the purchase is refunded in full.
This delivery commitment applies independently of the usage-based archive refund table. Contact info@historicaldata.net from the purchase email address, or include the order reference and a description of the problem.
Usage-based refunds for archive purchases
Requests for full or partial usage-based refunds on HistoricalData.net archive purchases must be submitted within 21 days of purchase. If no data has been downloaded, the refund is 100% for any reason. After downloading data, the refund percentage follows the usage scale below. Stock usage is counted in data files; options usage is counted only in fully downloaded calendar months.

How downloads are counted
- Only data files count. Reading or downloading a README, manifest, symbol list or update script does not count as a data download.
- The same data file counts once, regardless of how many times it is fetched.
- An options calendar month counts only when all daily files available for that month within the purchased archive have been downloaded. A partially downloaded month counts as zero months for refund purposes. If no month has been fully downloaded, the usage-based refund is 100%.
HistoricalData.net uses delivery records to determine which files have been delivered through the purchase's links. If S3 access credentials are issued for a range, issuance counts as delivery of that range for refund purposes: subsequent S3 downloads bypass the normal delivery records.
The archive usage scale does not apply to monthly subscription cancellation; the subscription month already billed is not refunded on cancellation. These terms do not remove rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded, or the express delivery commitment above.
HistoricalData.net data license

This license sets out how you may use data delivered under a particular purchase or subscription. It takes effect when you first download data under that purchase or subscription. Delivery, access periods and refunds are governed by the separate terms of sale.
1. License scope
Choose a license at checkout according to the number of people who will have access to the data:
- Single user — one designated person.
- Team — up to 10 people.
- Organization — any number of people within one legal entity.
A person counts as a user if they can access the data files or a database loaded from them. Someone who only reads reports or views charts or other permitted results does not count as a user of the underlying data.
The license covers the person or legal entity for whom the purchase is made. Employees, consultants and collaborators who can access the data count toward the selected license’s user limit. Working on the same project does not extend a Single user license to other people.
For an organizational purchase, covered users are its employees and consultants engaged to work on its behalf, within the selected user limit. Parent companies, subsidiaries and other group entities need their own licenses. An Organization license removes the user limit within one legal entity; it does not cover an entire corporate group.
Free samples may be downloaded and evaluated without purchasing a license, subject to the redistribution restrictions in section 3.
2. Permitted uses
Within the scope of your license, you may:
- Use the data for commercial or non-commercial work, including trading, research, analysis, consulting, teaching, and developing products and services.
- Store and process it on local machines, internal databases, notebooks and cloud services you control, with access limited to covered users.
- Create models, signals, indicators, backtests, reports, dashboards and research papers.
- Publish permitted results, including statistics, charts, model outputs, backtest performance, trade lists and equity curves, subject to sections 3 and 5. These results may appear in commercial products and on commercial sites.
- Train machine-learning models as described in section 4.
- Keep and continue using data already delivered under this license after an included update period or subscription ends, subject to section 8.
A later price change, product withdrawal or subscription cancellation does not end your right to use data already delivered under this license. An update period or subscription determines which new files you receive, not how long you may use files already delivered. Download access and replacement links remain governed by the terms of sale.
3. Redistribution restrictions
You may not sell, publish, share, sublicense or otherwise redistribute data files, in whole or in part, to anyone outside your license scope. You may not release derived outputs from which a substantial part of the data can be reconstructed in usable form.
A substantial part is assessed by the usable data a recipient can recover, rather than by a fixed row count or percentage of the archive. A chart of a strategy’s returns is a permitted result. A published table of daily closing prices for a thousand tickers redistributes usable market data, even if it represents a small fraction of the archive.
You may show limited example rows to explain research or an issue in a paper, post, support request or bug report. Examples must not be accumulated or organized into a collection that substitutes for the underlying data.
Download links and access credentials may only be shared with users covered by your license.
4. Machine learning
You may train machine-learning models on the data, including models used commercially.
If you publish a model or offer it as a service, users must not be able to recover a substantial part of the underlying data through it. Predictions, scores and classifications are permitted outputs, provided they comply with section 3. A model that reproduces historical quotes on request is subject to the same redistribution restrictions as other ways of supplying the data.
5. Attribution
Published research using the data, such as papers, preprints and public research reports, must credit HistoricalData.net as the source, with a link where the format allows. Internal work, commercial products, client deliverables and trading do not otherwise require attribution.
6. Data quality and limitations
The methodology page describes how the data is prepared, and known data limits describe coverage gaps and interpretation issues. We may correct or update files and publish newly identified limits.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the data is provided without warranties of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. This does not remove the delivery and refund commitments in the terms of sale.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude liability for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from use of the data or inability to use it, including lost profits. Where liability remains, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us.
Nothing in this license excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or removes our express delivery and refund obligations under the terms of sale.
8. Termination
Access to the data remains subject to the user limits in section 1. If you redistribute data in breach of section 3, this license terminates and you must stop using data covered by it. Ending a subscription or an included update period does not itself terminate the license.
Uses expressly agreed with us in writing remain subject to that written agreement. If you are unsure whether a proposed use is permitted, contact info@historicaldata.net.
9. Governing law
This license is governed by the laws of Hong Kong. It does not require you to bring a claim in any particular court.
10. License versions
Changes to this license apply to future purchases and do not retroactively change an existing purchase. The version published on the date of your purchase governs the data delivered under that purchase. A later revision does not change your rights in data already delivered under an earlier version.
You may keep the license supplied with your files and contact us for the version applicable to your purchase.
Which terms apply to an existing purchase?
Changes to HistoricalData.net's terms of sale apply to future purchases and do not retroactively change an existing purchase or the rights granted under its license. The license version applicable to the purchase governs the delivered data.
